Twas the night before kindergarden
and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring
except Mama mouse.
The lunch box was packed
in the refrigerator with care,
in hopes that a young boy
would eat everything there.
The backpack was ready
by the front door
to save time in the morning,
just one less chore.
The outfit was chosen,
Not much to pick through--
Khaki pants or navy?
Yellow shirt? White or blue?
All is quiet,
two boys sleeping sound.
Just Mama and Papa up,
their thoughts swirling 'round.
Will he be okay?
Will he have memories fun?
Will he want to go back
when the first day is done?
Will he speak kindly to others?
Will they speak kindly to him?
Will the other kids welcome him
to play games with them?
Will he remember the rules?
Will he follow them too?
Will he feel scared or lonely?
Will he know what to do?
I know we can't be there;
we must trust and rest
in the One who never leaves him...
and loves him the best.

I loved it! It was really touching, but I'm also a really emotional person so that might have something to do with it. I'm sure Russ will do great tomorrow (or today depending on when you read this,) you've taught him well.
With parents like you,
He's bound to just soar!
He'll wow them, he'll charm them,
They'll all ask for more.
So hush all your worries,
And calm all your fright,
And go hit your pillow....
And to all a good night.
