Getting Ready

Well, the boys are both in time out for arguing in the car on the way home from piano lessons, so I'm taking some time to blog.

The doctor's appointment yesterday went... well, it went. I'm not sure if his diagnosis was correct, but time will tell. I was told I have slightly dry skin in my ears (although he was surprised that I don't have dry skin around the outside of my ears, too) and that I just developed an infection as a result of the skin peeling. And, not just one random infection, but two, similtanously. Kinda sounds like he wasn't sure what was wrong and decided that a good dose of amoxacillin should cure whatever ails me. So, between amoxacillin and ear drops, I should be good to go. If I'm not good to go by Friday, I'm to go back and he'll come up with something else... er, try a different treatment.

I still had to use two Tylenol Extra Strengths to get to sleep because my ears were itching/burning/throbbing so badly. This morning, though, both are slightly better, so maybe the antibiotic is working. I sure hope so!

In other news, I have developed an unnatural craving for chocolate covered donuts. Perhaps the craving is not unnatural, but I'm sure the amount I have consumed is unnatural. I've always been able to eat whatever I want and in whatever quantities I want. These chocolate covered donuts have changed that. So, I have begun walking at The ROC with Aimee and my neighbor, Allison. I've gone two days now and both days, Aimee and I walked 3 miles in about 45 minutes. We meet at 5:50 to get there at 6, when it opens. Then we've been home by 7 both days. It's perfect because the boys are still asleep while I'm gone and I still have time to get ready for the day before it's half over. Aimee's goal is to get to where she can walk 5 miles in less than an hour. I think I'm up for the challenge.

And, as for the chocolate covered donuts, would you believe, I've totally lost my craving! It's weird. I have a package in the fridge (I like the chocolate a little crunchy) and it's just sitting there feeling neglected. I'm okay with that. Ask me if it's still there tomorrow, though...

I spent today cleaning so that I can spend tomorrow leisurely packing for our trip to Arizona. We're planning to leave around 3 in the morning, Saturday morning. My uncle (my dad's brother) is a truck driver and he sometimes comes through Longview. Well, amazingly, he'll be in Longview, headed the same direction we're going this weekend! So, for about an hour of the trip, he wants to let the boys ride with him in his big semi. They're both very excited! What a fun experience.

We're also planning an evening at the Blazin' M Ranch and a trip down a natural rock slide. I think we're going to have a lot of fun! I'm not even too worried about the drive. I'm going to relax and enjoy the trip, without being frustrated with any arguments between the kids or road construction or anything. I hope. :-)

I have enough snacks to feed an army (did you know someone invented gummy Legos?!) and cucumber-scented wipes. We're good to go. And we're all excited.

I asked Slade if he wanted me to fix some meals for him while we're gone and he said he'd manage and not to go to the extra effort. So, he'll have leftovers, hamburgers, hotdogs, mac-n-cheese or whatever else he can rustle up. I think he'll be glad to have us home at the end of the week. :-)

Okay, time to go get dinner started for the boys. Slade and I will be eating dinner at a Chinese restaurant in town with other small group leaders from church. Pastor Craig invited all the small group leaders out just to say "thanks". I know we'll have fun and the boys will enjoy playing at the church with the other kids.
